Identity theft should be on everyone's minds in this day and age. As I am a Certified Fraud Examiner, data safety issues both in paper and electronic form is on my mind. Perhaps I think about it a little more than most. I guess it has to do with the concern I have for my client's safety.
My firm shreds, through a contract with a third party vendor, sensitive data.
The safest way for a client to send me data is to hand deliver it. However, with clients all over the country it is not the most efficient manner.
So likewise, while it is efficient to send data via email, the potential for an unwanted user to obtain sensitive data such as social security or financial account numbers is a real danger. That is why my firm has taken the steps to set up a secure, encrypted file transfer system.
In order to send files to me in a secure fashion, my clients should send a regular email to me at
arthur@gunncpa.com requesting file transfer instructions. The subject line should read:
Request file transfer instructions and I will send back specific instructions that will include a special email address and a unique message for the subject line.
When I send out files, I will send out a link that will enable my client to access the file at a secure site through a link. When the link is accessed, the client can download the data over the internet. The data is sent in an encrypted file.
I sincerely hope that this puts some of your concerns at ease knowing that I care about you and your identity.
